Landlord Racketeering family of Lawyers ousted by disruptive technology: Proving My Point

Yesterday I was threatened, spoken to abusively, intimidated and physically hurt by my landlords daughter.
- Inhumane conditions
- Privacy breaches
- Health Hazards
Jonas Mihal owner of 11 Elise Way has been the cause of too many peoples loss of hopes, dreams and shattered confidence through is intentional Profiteering by creating a horror house of shared rooms which are in a diabolical state, charging obscene rental then making it so filthy, unhygienic and miserable that people cant’ deal with it and leave. We have yet to encounter anyone who has received a returned deposit or rent refund when they’ve complained about the health hazards that abound. He intimidates you, swears at you and, when you insist that he raise the standards he threatens to have you evicted by the police. (as him and his children are currently doing despite the fact that I’ve agreed to pay rent, the moment the minimal standards are reached as expected by the law)
He makes you sign a contract but you never get a copy.
I recently encountered the house again after a tormented night spent there nearly three years ago. I swore then I’d do something about the abysmal conditions Mr Mihal has created to racketeer rent from unsuspecting, desperate and broke individuals and families.
The Landlord and Tenant Act states that
- You have to be a registered Landlord to charge rent
- You have to provide a minimum standard of Product (as with any product) before you can charge rent
- The rent needs to be in keeping with the averages for people of a lower income, if that is the group you are aiming for by providing basics.
This landlord has been churning out tenants as quickly as he can, making a profitable living by making life a living hell for everyone who has ever been unfortunate enough to be so low as to have to spend a night there. His contract, which he as a Lawyer has churned out by the dozen, are as far away from being a legal document as you can get.
Civil Rights: Breach of Privacy
– because I’m a Doctor of Law it’s legal, so sign it or lose the room. You have nowhere else to go… and he knows that.
His contract states that he can enter any room in the property whenever he wants, without notice. No keys in locks on the bathroom, no keys for the bedroom door. Nearly three years ago I had a horror stricken night with the Ghost (as he is known in the circles that land there and have a horror story of their own to tell) entering my bedroom whilst I was asleep. Claiming he had every right to do so… how does one live like that? With a creepy manipulative man walking into your personal space whenever he feels like it. I’m not alone in that either. A colleague hadn’t been paid by a client for six months, landing him in the horror house of hell. Highly skilled and talented Programmer and Software developer he caught the Dr rifling through his computer equipment bags surprising the Dr by returning to fetch something he’d left behind.
And don’t be a minute late with your rent or I’ll switch the lights off. Actually, when they blow, I’ll just leave it like that so you can’t use the kitchen, passage or lounge with any confidence because they’ll be filled with darkness and critters you don’t want to know the name of. Many months later for a different reason I land up at this place. The electrics are still blown. Darkness.
And with that… the cockroaches and all those critters that hang with them in extreme filth situations will be delivered to you in a microwave, kettles, toasters and toasted sandwich makers, all encrusted with the ideal feast for a multitude of illness bringing creatures. Strict instructions are given to leave the microwave exactly where it is. Don’t touch it and don’t use it. If you do, you’ll be thrown off the property and accused of theft! Of Cockroaches?
The microwave in the center of the kitchen blocking the entire counter space, is spilling over with cockroaches which are also invested in the oven which has probably not been cleaned since his wife did it…
It’s abhorrent, the level of degradation this man and, we now learn, his children have created to racketeer and profit from peoples vulnerability is tantamount of psychological manipulation. It’s certainly a violation of human rights. Then delivering them into poverty and hazardous health conditions with little option to stay and live with it, or leave and be on the street with your sanity barely intact.
The hundreds of people that must have been through this house, the emotional destruction, despair and torment that happens in a situation like this… Until you’ve been there you cannot imagine it. People wander ‘why do they want to live like that?’ They Don’t.
Tenants are Not the Problem!
At 11 Elise Way in Hout Bay the tenants are not the problem. The Landlord is. Jonas Mihal refuses to do any maintenance work on the house at all. Insisting that if you don’t like it, ‘fuck off’. I’m a Doctor at Law and you’ll never beat me’ is his attitude.
Deprived of your last cents, it’s hard to imagine life getting better.
2016 was an inordinately tiring year for me. Starting it in the plush luxury of a home in the Valley – an exquisite, undulating happiness filled with fresh cents and birdsong I was confident 2017 would bring with it the fruition of the project as I need to get moving now. I’m bored, Universe. Let’s get saving people already!
So here I landed. When I left the Dr’s house the first time I swore to him, the universe and myself I would, one day, ensure that he pays for the destruction he has caused in his violations of human rights, civil liberties and more. Racketeering, colluding with his children who are apparently also lawyers, to destroy as many people as possible. The unhappier the tenant the more they like you because you’re another one in the churning pot of a months rent and deposit stolen.
The conditions now are worse by the number of days. The sadness is the two lovely families living in the property are desperate to live a normal life. Being powerless is one of the most soul destroying things to happen to a human. When your landlord intentionally keeps you powerless, how do you ever make a break and get out? Or get him to fix the property to make it worth the rental being demanded. Illegally, of course.
Not meeting the minimum standards of the type of accommodation you would expect for the hefty portion of your salary every month is demoralising and soul destroying.
The current tenants are all happy in themselves people from various backgrounds and ethnicities. All of them are desperate to be able to live a normal life. To be able to come home from work and make a quick cup of tea without having to rush to cooking whilst it’s still light… in winter… well, no dinner here tonight… Then you are left with no option but to cook in your bedroom so it now becomes a bedsit filled with filthy carpets and cooking stench, mess and a tasty regular meal for the cockroaches.
An unusable kitchen is overrun with vermin and diseases crawling out of every crevice. A scary place when you need water at midnight.
The situation has arisen that the Landlord is trying to oust me. Why, one wanders? What on earth could I have done… Oh… he, in his dribbling, bewildered state, thinks I only paid one weeks rent. The fact is, I never paid rent at all. I paid my utilities and council services as is all he is legally able to claim… direct to the tenant who cleared out as quickly as she could after me agreeing to take the space.
When I realised it was the same house I was destroyed. I moved in on Saturday. That night not knowing the situation as I’d not even ventured that far, I entered the kitchen. Touched the light switch… no luck… then got my phone and found a kettle. I filled it and while I switched it on, I was caressed by a creepy critter scurrying towards the light I was holding…
Nauseated, freaked out but desperate for a cup of coffee I chose to ignore the vomit-rising feeling to get out of there as quickly as possible, hot water in hand.
The next day I had diarrhoea. Bugs like these hazardous creatures attack even the most secure immune system. My immune system is weak so susceptibility to hazardous to health conditions is higher than the average person.
Three days later I finally surfaced. Depressed. Distraught and financially down as I was counting on work I had lined up, I found myself considering suicide. Despite the great part time job I’d found in the ideal place for me to showcase the Poverty Alleviation principles in practice, I found myself in a deep pit of despair wondering what the hell the universe was playing at. Ten days of mulling over my misery, dwelling in the Why’s of the Dr’s behaviour and treatment of his tenants. Eating only porridge and honey with warm water from the bathroom basin, I cleansed myself and went investigating the situation and whether or not I was able to make this work or if I should leave.
When I discovered that the Dr (and we now know his children) have intentionally left the building derelict to mistreat, steal from, abuse, threaten and evict as many tenants as they can, I was suddenly hit with the knowing that I was placed here again to do the right thing. Every tenant who has every spent a night here has alerted him to, requested him to and begging or insisted he fix and clean. To no avail. For the past two years one tenant and her daughter have had little choice but to live like this. It’s soul destroying and an abysmal way for a child to live when the solutions are simply a few phone calls and one month of her rent to achieve a clean, lit home.
The sheer malice it must take to intentionally destroy peoples dignity and health to profit… I’m still reeling and am sure you will be or already are… You certainly will be once the rest of the unfortunates crawl out the woodwork and tell their horror stories of the ghost house in Hout Bay.
Alleviating Poverty is more than just feeding people, I’ve discovered. I’ve also discovered that the most poverty stricken of them all are the white supremacists who believe they are above the law or can create their own. Lawyers seem to have the attitude that they can and will do whatever they please. Destruction of humans at will, humanitarian rights and privacy laws do not apply to this lot.
Set in an elite suburb of discerning residents in Hout Bay, 11 Elise Way’s façade tells nothing of the nightmares that ensue daily. I am uncertain of the precise reaction to expect of the Hout Bay residents to the information contained in this article but I am sure that there will be enough of them to save my bacon later when the landlord intends to call the police at midnight (I’m sure that’s not legal) to physically escort me off the premises. (Sunday 29th Jan)
The daughter, probably in her mid 20s, yesterday told me they’d seize my assets should I not ‘clear out’ by midnight tonight, that’s a nice little Mac you have there, she said… alluding to my tablet. She also mentioned how ‘little you have’ raising herself above me as if having stuff is more important than having a moral code of respecting others human rights. She had clearly entered my room, rummaged through my wardrobe as that’s where my laptop was. I later discovered it was half opened, clearly left in a hurry. Breach of Privacy… lawywers, behaving like this? Is this what the legal profession is churning out now?
Respect your profession by not degrading the Law by using it as an opportunity to profit by keeping your tenants in poverty. Strong arming the law (if it’s even police they use) to destroy another hapless soul who is that way because you made them that way, is not befitting of someone with an LLB Ms Mihal.
The threats, intimidation, physically threatening body language and shutting my hand in the gate were just a few hints that maybe it’s time to give up the fraudulent ways and do what is right. Do what will give you the best opportunity to look back and be proud of your past self.
With any luck this article is being distributed far and wide so that the embarrassment of the foul treatment of your tenants will usher you all out of Hout Bay with all of your LLB’s and any other letters neatly tucked between your legs.
The Current Tenants:
The Tenants have had enough of sub standard for extreme rentals. They want what they have paid for and are being demanded they pay for.
They’re all interested in and have begun participating in growing their own vegetables. We’ve started a vegetable garden with the Organic beetroot ends I’ve been lucky enough to obtain, salad seeds, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and more. These among other Organic seeds and seedlings are being planted as you read this.
The tenants are not to blame. The Landlord has defrauded plenty of people in his scheme and needs to be taken to book. The tenants want a home to be proud of. We need the residents of Hout Bay to stand with us in cleansing this family and property of the poverty of character. Instilling a moral code of ethics and integrity by compelling the landlord to do what is right. Or assisting us with ensuring he is reported to the relevant authorities.
The property needs to be taken in hand as it is now beginning to cause health risks with the sewerage drain blocked, it’s seeping more and more daily. Sitting on the upper hill of the valley, it’s an issue we don’t want to think about should it burst full tilt.
The cockroaches and rats need to be eradicated immediately. The entire property steamed cleaned and repainted.
Leading roofs and ceilings need to be fixed.
Electricity issues need to be repaired.
These are the minimum standards anyone would expect when paying rent.
Share Accommodation Standards
- R4,000 a Month for a Room in a shared house in Hout Bay:
- Basic Fixtures and Fittings (all functional)
- Room with bed etc – all basic
- Full use of shared facilities including but not limited to:
- Braai area
- WIFI (High Speed)
- A maid cleans the communal areas at least once a week. Gardener tends the garden.
- Kitchen is fully equipped with functioning, clean equipment, utensils, crockery etc.
- At 11 Elise Way you get:
- No Wifi, DSTV, Pool is out of bounds and derelict.
- Kitchen lights are defective so no cooking after work. Cockroaches rule and humans are expected to wait their turn.

You’ll be uplifting 11 people. Plus you’ll ensure that at least three of us can generate an income from cooking and growing the vegetables we need. We also then will no longer be poor tenants as we’ll have a home we can be proud of. 😉
The tenants are largely helpless to help themselves.
